RFS secures TETRA wireless communications systems integration contract for the Beijing Metro Changping Line
Shanghai, July 22, 2010 - Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), the global wireless and broadcast infrastructure specialist, today announced that it has been selected as systems integrator for the Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) wireless communications system along the Beijing Metro Changping Line. The contract, valued at approximately 30 million Chinese yuan (3.5 million euros), is RFS' second systems integration win for an in-tunnel wireless communications project for the Beijing Metro. In 2009, RFS successfully designed and integrated the TETRA wireless communications system for the Beijing Metro Line 4.RFS won the Changping Line contract over both local and global competitors due to its strong technical design and service capabilities and its first-rate reputation. RFS will provide a complete TETRA wireless communications system and related services, including coverage design, delivery of TETRA digital radio communications system and related equipments, site surveys, supervision, system commissioning and acceptance as well as project and documentation management.
The tunnel coverage designs are based on RFS' RADIAFLEX® radiating cables, supported by a wide range of passive and active technologies, including TETRA fiber optic repeater systems, antennas and accessories, to meet precise coverage, traffic and route requirements. Similar solutions leveraging RFS products and expertise have already been proven in the Beijing Metro Line 4 and other metro lines in China. By incorporating cutting-edge, fail-safe technology and a redundant design, RFS' wireless in-tunnel solutions offer the highest availability on the market and the ability to upgrade and expand to meet future requirements.
With long distances between many of the stations along the Changping Line, system design is a key consideration. To meet this challenge, RFS will rely on its innovative TETRA fiber optic repeater system. This system is specially designed for long-distance metro environments and will allow RFS to ensure reliable signal relays across the largest number of repeaters to be deployed along a metro line in recent years. RFS' TETRA fiber optic repeater system features high reliability, excellent resistance to interference and easy-to-maintain capabilities for signal capacity extension. The system can also be easily managed locally or remotely.
"We're serving as the general integrator of the Changping Line's communications system project," said Luo Ming, General Manager of the Beijing Metro Project Department at ZTE. "We were very impressed by RFS' outstanding expertise and rich experience in the area of in-tunnel coverage design and solutions when we selected the subsystem integrator partner for the line's TETRA wireless communications system. This is not the first time RFS and ZTE have cooperated in the field, and ZTE has already achieved great success with RFS in the Beijing Metro Line 10, Olympic Branch Line and Yizhuang Line projects. I believe that RFS will build a high quality and reliable TETRA in-tunnel wireless coverage network for the Changping Line," he said.
Motorola will supply the TETRA digital radio communications system for the project. "We are honored to provide Motorola's TETRA digital radio communications system to the Beijing Metro Changping Line," said a representative of Motorola Electronics Company's Enterprise Mobility Solutions System Business Unit in North China. "This is another example of our cooperation with RFS, following the Beijing Metro Line 4 TETRA wireless communications system project in 2009. The combination of our TETRA digital radio communications system and RFS' leading turnkey in-tunnel wireless coverage solution on the Changping Line will surely result in another optimal TETRA wireless network," he said.
"We're very pleased that RFS won this important bid after an intensive competition, and we are very proud to have the opportunity to cooperate with Motorola and ZTE again to build a complete metro communications network for the Changping Line." said Chen Zhenhua, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the North Asia Pacific region of RFS. "As the globally acknowledged expert in in-tunnel RF coverage systems, we bring nearly 40 years of experience and know-how gained from installing many hundreds of coverage systems for metros, railway and road tunnels around the world," he said.
"In China, RFS has over 70 percent of the metro wireless coverage market. By providing our expertise in essential wireless communications coverage to the Beijing Metro Changping Line, RFS is further demonstrating its commitment to the local market, its strong local support capabilities and its unrivalled global experience in deployment and delivery of high-quality wireless TETRA communications systems," he concluded.
